When I saw TIME Magazine's choice of Bill & Melinda Gates (along with that great world-class statesman, Bono) as Persons of the Year, I foolishly assumed that Gates was selected for the unparalelled impact that his Microsoft Corporation has had on business efficiency and productivity, and indeed on all of our lives.
It turns out that TIME is even more shallow than I gave them credit for, since Mr. & Mrs. Gates were selected, not for the world-changing contributions of Microsoft, but for their trendy Africa-hopping goodwill mission.
TIME's Man of the Year may actually surpass the Nobel Prize as the world's pre-eminent elitist, "beautiful people" mutual admiration society -- priceless in its worthlessness.
