What a bitter irony if John McCain’s presidential aspirations are undermined by President Bush, whose (undeserved) unpopularity is a major drag on McCain’s prospects. "Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein..."
McCain has spent the better part of the past eight years undermining President Bush – on tax cuts, the Enron scandal (recall that McCain opportunistically joined the absurd blame-Bush chorus in order to ram through McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform), the early conduct of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, Drilling in ANWR, Judicial Appointments (I must not think about the phrase “Gang of Fourteen,” or I might accidentally mark “Obama” on my ballot), and “Torture” at Gitmo.
“... and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.”
O Merciful Lord God, withhold that stone for three weeks, I beseech You!
