The accompanying audio link is the last three minutes of an interview of Condoleeza Rice, conducted on October 4, 2000 by David Newman for WJR AM Radio in Detroit. At the time, Dr. Rice was campaigning for Governor George W. Bush, and her comments about Osama Bin Laden are quite enlightening, especially in the wake of Richard Clarke's assertion that during a briefing by Clarke in early 2001 National Security Adviser Rice's facial expressions reflected her ignorance about Al Quaeda.
If you have watched or listened to Mr. Clarke's 9/11 Commission testimony or his Book-hawking on TV, you already know -- irrespective of your thoughts about the merits of his criticisms -- that Clarke has a sanctimonious and self-important manner. Listen to the audio clip of Condoleeza Rice and draw your own conclusions about what Dr. Rice's facial expressions may have indicated.
