By now, does anybody doubt that the Democrats are against the U.S. effort in Iraq? Our lightning fast military victory allowed Democrats to emerge from the uncomfortable position which they had briefly assumed, wrapped in the American Flag, while our boys were fighting on TV. Once major combat operations were ended the Democrats returned to their natural posture of gainsaying the effective projection of American military power. But now that the bullets are flying again in Iraq it is hard for the Dems to reverse field and pretend to support our troops again - their momentum in the opposite direction is just too strong.
Not every voter will be able to articulate it, but people watching prominent Democrats remark upon the war in Iraq will have a gut feeling (possibly unidentified, but still real) that Democrats are against America -- that Democrats wish America ill. Any salesman knows - as Bill Clinton certainly knew - that people buy on emotion. Now, what emotions will the foregoing produce in the American electorate? The voters will demonstrate in November that The USA is not Spain.
