Responding directly to an interviewer's question, "can you win the War on Terrorism in the next four years?" President Bush explained that this war will not have a conclusion like conventional wars, with a peace treaty, or with one nation surrendering to another.
The President has expressed this same truth many times since 9/11, but the Old Media seized on the President's remark, being careful not to quote his words, but re-casting them out-of-context as "Bush says War on Terrorism is unwinnable." This kind of distortion might be expected from the Kerry Campaign (which did in fact commit the same distortion), but the News Media has no excuse for mis-characterizing the President's comment. If the mis-reporting was not a manifestation of anti-Bush Media partisanship, then it can only be a manifestation of Media incompetence.
Notwithstanding the gleeful feeding frenzy by the Media and Kerry Campaigns, does any serious person doubt that George W. Bush is determined to win America's War against Islamist Terrorism? Face it, Jihadists and tyrants toss and turn on their beds at the thought of President Bush winning a second term, while the election of a confirmed Dove like John Kerry would allow America's mortal enemies to once again get a good night's sleep.
