Several members of the delusional Left have lately observed supposed similarities between America's Founding Fathers and the Jihadist murderers perpetrating terror attacks in Iraq; so it is telling that no one on the Left makes the somewhat more obvious and fitting comparison of the Iraqi Constitutional Convention to Washington, Franklin, Madison, et al. Instead, as Iraqi delegates strive to draft a Constitution that will stand in the Middle East as a beacon of pluralistic compromise and enlightened self-government, the American Left has responded with sneers, and gleefully pronounces failure with every bump in the Constitution-writing road.
Recall then that Leftists copped the same "it-will-never-work" attitude toward the January 2005 Iraqi Elections, and were left muttering "yeah, but..." when ten million courageous purple-thumbed Iraqis made the first democratic vote in their long history a singular success. So, the march of freedom and democracy goes on, but with so-called Liberals cursing and gainsaying its every step, just because those steps have been made possible by the force of American arms, and the leadership of a President toward whom they cherish a blinding hatred.
Those who see more in common between our Founding Fathers and the likes of Abu Musab al-Zarquawi, than they see between our Founders and the Iraqi men and women who are risking life and limb to bring their long-suffering country a government of, by and for the People, have a warped perception of both the past and the present, and are unlikely to woo the confidence of the electorate so long as the American People recognize the presence of danger to our nation. The fact that the Blame-America Left now pulls the levers of the Democrat Party makes the Democrats peculiarly well qualified to find fault with anything America does in the World, and therefore peculiarly unqualified to win or wield power.
Some Democrats, recognizing this political dead-end (even if their Left-wing wacko Base does not), are busily feinting Right on National Security hot-buttons, while other Democrat politicians -- counting on the efficacy of Barnum's famous maxim -- have joined the opinion shapers in media, academia and pop-culture in trying to convince Americans that Islamist threats to our nation are merely an understandable response to our pernicious policies respecting Iraq and Israel.
The likelihood of Hillary Clinton, Bill Richardson or any other dyed-in-the-wool Liberal Democrat hoodwinking a winning margin of voters with a "Conservative" facade seems promising only when compared to the prospect of Leftist agit-prop persuading majorities of Americans that the United States is the problem, rather than the problem-solver in this troubled World. Nevertheless, those are the only strategies extant among Democrat Party movers and shakers, as no one with influence in the Party has proposed actually altering the heart of Democrat politics, which still throbs to the Anti-War, Anti-Capitalist, Anti-Christian, Anti-American beat of the 1960's Left.
A political Party, all of whose strategies for winning power require fooling the electorate, must depend heavily on inertia, and today's Leftist Democrats have nearly exhausted the decades of political momentum accumulated by two generations of patriotic Democrat politicians. The combination of waning influence and stealth politics makes for a frustrated and embittered political movement with little positive energy holding it together, besides the quest for power; so, if power continues to elude the Democrats in one election cycle after another, what will hold their coalition together?
If the Democrat Party does die, the cause will be heart failure. Any movement that scorns the ideas and actions of the Founding Fathers cannot win the hearts and minds of the American People, because the voters will eventually catch on and be repulsed. With Howard Dean at the helm, Michael Moore in the seat of honor, MoveOn.org and George Soros holding the purse strings, and Democrat politicians carelessly consorting with Leftists who can't tell the difference between the American Revolution and Al-Qaeda's "Insurgency" in Iraq, the Democrat Party is a high-risk for just such a heart failure.
