DISCOVERED: Democrat 2008 VP Candidate

It's not often that a political Party discovers the ideal Candidate: one who not only appeals to the eyes, but who epitomizes the insightfulness and spirit of reasoned argument that defines an entire political movement. Some observers even doubt whether such candidates exist; notwithstanding, Democrat Campaign Consultants have longed to present the voters with a candidate for the VP slot who combines the eloquence of Hillary Clinton, the intellectual profundity of Barak Obama and the glamour of John Edwards, so imagine the exhiliration Democrats must be feeling over the national debut of the perfect Democrat candidate for Vice President.

Torture Ban Won't Affect Senate Proceedings

Amid charges by human rights groups of intentionally vague wording, President Bush issued an Executive Order prohibiting torture by U.S. Government officials.

Human rights advocates pointed to the omission of Sleep Deprivation from the list of forbidden techniques, as evidence of the Bush Administration's evasiveness on an issue that has driven a wedge between the United States and many Western European allies in the War on Terror.

White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, however, claimed that Sleep Deprivation had been removed from the list of techniques classified as torture, at the insistence of a Congressional Advisory Group, led by Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid. According to Snow, the original language of the Executive Order classified Sleep Deprivation as a form of torture, but Reid, on the advice of his lawyers, asked the President to strike that portion from the Order, for fear of lawsuits from his fellow U.S. Senators.

Reid's office did not return phone calls requesting a clarification.

Not all "alternative lifestyles" are created equal
If Jeri Thompson would be the first "trophy wife" first lady, shouldn't the NY Times be celebrating the breaking down of another archaic social taboo? What's wrong with the Thompson's "alternative lifestyle" that it gets no respect from the enlightened classes?

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

Obama had a fundraising quarter that must have the smartest woman in the world in a frenzy. Nevertheless, I fully expect Hillary to win the Dem nomination in the end. Obama, the more formidable general election candidate, has the same chances of coming out on top that Naboth had when he faced the attack machine of a similar political couple. Still, the “clean and articulate” Obama must have the ambitious Ms. Rodham throwing lots of ashtrays at her Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, for all the “wrong” answers it's been giving her lately.

Independence?

In the town where I work there is a business that gives passing drivers a chuckle by posting humorous messages on their outdoor marquee. Last night on my way home I drove past the Fire Department and saw this message on the Marquee: "Leave the Fireworks to the Professionals and Have a Safe and Happy 4th of July."

At first I thought they had picked up the comical spirit; then I realized they were serious -- the authors of that message were calling upon free men to celebrate Independence Day by depending on the experts to run their celebration for them.

It doesn't surprise me that a government institution would recommend docility to the citizenry, but I tremble to think how few eyebrows may be raised as they drive by that sign, ingesting its anesthetizing message.

Like talking to a Liberal

Talking about Illegal Immigration with a pro-Comprehensive Immigration Reform Republican is a lot like talking with a Liberal about anything else.

Are the Republican supporters of Comprehensive Immigration Reform truly so weak-minded that they cannot differentiate between anti-immigration and anti-illegal immigration, or are they just willfully blind to the distinction in order to discredit Border-Security-First Conservatives?

pro-Choice for me, but not for thee

The Access to Birth Control Act has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by "Pro-Choice" Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney of New York. Interestingly, the bill would deny freedom of conscience and the right to choose to Pharmacists (including Pharmacists who are Female), who are morally repulsed by using their professional skills to distribute the do-it-yourself abortifacent, Plan B.

Evidently the Feminist absolutes of "The Right to Choose" and "A matter of Conscience" count when the conscience-driven choice is having an abortion, but don't carry the same weight when conscience chooses life.

Mavericks?

President Bush, back from the G-8 Summit, will meet with Republican lawmakers to persuade them to support Comprehensive Immigration Reform (a.k.a. Amnesty).

I trust that, in keeping with the treatment accorded to Chuck Hagel, John McCain (pre-surge), Arlen Specter, etc, the Republicans who defy the President on the Amnesty bill will be lionized by the media as “Mavericks” and widely and adoringly quoted in press accounts about the legislation.

A Tale of Two Celebrations
Remember when some longsuffering Iraqis kicked up their heels at Saddam being fitted with a hemp necktie? Oh, how that outburst of happiness at the just execution of a mass-murdering dictator ignited outrage, scolding and condemnation from the “civilized” elites. So, where were the guardians of good manners last week when Rev. Jerry Falwell passed away? Secularists and fellow-travelers made the scaffold-side cheering and jeering by relieved Iraqis look mournful by comparison to the hateful ( and dare I say it? Judgemental ) celebrations of Fallwell’s death. You can tell a lot about a person by what they celebrate, and what they don’t.

Of RINOs and Rhodas

I wish our side would leave the ignorance-peddling to the Democrats --  they're so much better at it anyway.

The Associated Press reports "[Mitt] Romney didn’t escape criticism at the [South Carolina GOP] convention either. Someone dressed in a rhinoceros costume stood outside the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center with a sign saying “RINOs 4 Romney,” accusing the former governor of being a “Republican in name only” because of his changing stances on gun control, gay marriage and abortion."

Duh! Romney changed his stances FROM Liberal TO Conservative. How does that make him a RINO? Now, one may question the sincerity of a foxhole conversion, but do we really want to rule out conversions period?

The pro-life/pro-family constituency in America is growing in numbers. Part of that growth is biological as our children come of age, trained to value human life and marriage, but much of the growth comes from ardent pro-lifers who used to be pro-abortion – like me.

Leave the politicians aside for a moment, how many pro-life voters do you know who once were pro-choice or indifferent? Ask around and you’ll find out there are plenty whose minds have been changed for one reason or another. Do we have so little confidence in the strength of our arguments that we can’t believe it when someone is persuaded by them? Sometimes our side reminds me of Rhoda answering the door in Acts chapter 12, we're incredulous when we get what we asked for.

Truth and Reason have a powerful effect on people who have the courage to believe them, and the arguments in defense of life and marriage have the support of both Truth and Reason. As on the issue of 2nd Amendment Rights I would say to Romney, “Welcome Home.”

Democrat Dilemma
When it comes to the Iraq War, the quandry facing Democrats is how to hang our troops and President Bush out to dry, without seeming to hang our troops out to dry.

Congressional Democrats have voted to set an October 1st Surrender Date for our troops in Iraq. In case you hadn’t figured it out by now, this is what Liberals mean when they claim to “support the troops.”

Bad Raid - Good Raid

A troupe of the usual Leftist suspects is throwing a tantrum because Federal Agents busted a Fake ID Manufacturing and Distribution Center in a Mexican neighborhood in Chicago. The ostensible reason for the outrage is that the Feds were brandishing machine guns when they descended in force on the house where this criminal activity was being conducted. This ocurred in broad daylight, right before the eyes of "the children."

Leaving aside the fact that none of the protesters seemed terribly concerned about the children being in close proximity to a gang of desperate criminals day and night, can anyone recall the likes of Rep. Luis Guittierez or Ald. Ricardo Munoz being exercised by the sight of Federal Stormtroopers in Miami, pouring out of white minivans to break down the doors of a peaceful American family, and poking an M-16 in the face of little Elian Gonzalez?

uh-huh, I thought not.

Henry V, John Paul Jones, Winston Churchill and Harry Reid

Showing heroic defiance of the Jihadist terrorists with whom America is at war, Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid (D-Nev), declared yesterday, "I believe this war is lost." This begs the question, does Harry Reid really believe that America can't win the most important fight of our time, or is he merely guilty of wishful thinking?

Got Lucky This Time
The troublesome thing about Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy ruling rightly to uphold the Federal Ban on Partial Birth Abortion is that it was utterly unpredictable. So, this time we got lucky, but what will happen next time, after Kennedy feels the sting of his Washington social calendar drying up?

Ambassador without Portfolio

A new rift may be opening in American Liberalism over the surprise replacement of Jesse Jackson by Nancy Pelosi as America's self-appointed ambassador at large and useful idiot in chief to Muslim tyrants.

We've come a long way from "no sleigh rides."

Remember the pathos? The families of "hard-working" (sic) non-essential government employees going without Turkeys because of "The Gingrich who stole Christmas" by shutting down the Federal Government -- never mind that it was Bill Clinton who vetoed the appropriation bill passed by the new GOP-majorities in Congress. The lacrymose network TV news feature on the poor sleigh ride operator at Yellowstone whose business was being ruined by those heartless Republicans.

Well, compare that coverage with the headlines produced by Democrats in the House of Representatives voting to cut off funding for our Troops in Iraq. The Chicago Sun-Times was typical, "HOUSE OK'S TROOP PULLOUT IN '08." How nice of the House, I'm sure the troops will be relieved, aren't you?

Where are the stories of how this will affect our valiant warriors in the field? Will the TV Network Newscasts run pitiful stories about our boys running out of ammo or rations, or about how do our Soldiers and Marines on the front lines against the Jihadists feel about the Congress trying to cut off funding for their fight?

Couldn't the headlines as easily read, "HOUSE VOTES FOR RETREAT BY '08," or "HOUSE VOTES TO CUT OFF TROOP FUNDING NEXT YEAR"? Fat chance of that happening. Our Liberal opinion-making elites are so persuaded of the inevitability of American defeat that to them Democrat defeatism seems unremarkable.
