I am delighted that Hillary lost in Iowa, not because I don’t want her to be the Democrat candidate, but because I want her to win the Democrat nomination in about July. The GOP is down on cash, down on motivation, and probably facing an extended and bloody primary. Democrats need to bleed! Democrats need to spend up their millions. Hillary needs to be exposed for the corrupt, strident, socialist, phony that she is. The other Democrat candidates need to dredge up the Clinton scandals of the 90’s (not to mention the 80’s) and thus incur the wrath and retribution of the Clinton War Room.
But after all that, don’t bet against the Clintons. Make no mistake, they will do anything – ANYTHING – to anyone, to regain power and they’ve spent fifteen years accumulating obligations (and FBI files), which they will cash in this year. Bill Richardson, who knows all this from the inside, will back out of the race and throw his support to Hillary, once he has done all he can toward building name recognition, and privately secured his spot as her running mate. Obama and Edwards will step into the crosshairs of the Clinton Attack Machine, and may it be a long and vicious battle royale, with Hillary emerging as the nominee of an embittered and divided Party, the one figure with the potential to unite the fractured Republican coalition. I consider that scenario all the more possible after Obama and Edwards bested Ms. Inevitable in Iowa, and a good thing too, because the Republicans are going to need a few hometown bounces.
